Comerica Bank Shred Day Houston 2026

Since launching Shred Day Houston in 2013 with our event partner Iron Mountain, we have helped Houstonians securely destroy and recycle over 1.1 million pounds of sensitive documents, helping keep that information out of the hands of dumpster divers and local landfills.

In the process, our generous guests have helped us raise close to $145,000 and donate 57,000 pounds of food for the Houston Food Bank, which is equivalent to providing more than 480,000 meals for hungry Houstonians.

On Saturday, April 18, we’ll be hosting our 13th annual Shred Day Houston at the Comerica Mangum Banking Center. The event is free and open to the public, and there is no limit to how much paper you can bring! Consumers and business owners may bring any amount of personal or business paper documents, and we’ll destroy and recycle them securely and efficiently.

There are countless sources of personal information in your home and office. When in doubt, have documents professionally shredded. The financial and reputational risks of identity theft are too serious to ignore. A small step now can prevent major consequences later, and the peace of mind is worth it.

We look forward to serving you at Shred Day Houston, and to raising your expectations of what a bank can be in the community!

FAQs

You may bring your paper documents to be securely destroyed. You are not required to remove small staples, paper clips, rubber bands and/or small fasteners; however, please find a list of prohibited items below.

Large or box trucks must have paper secured in pallets or boxes. It will be at Iron Mountain’s discretion to accept the disposal of loose paper not secured within these vehicles.

Prohibited items include:

  • Paper: cardboard, telephone books, hardcover books
  • Trash: food waste, bottles, glass, cans, inks, dyes, paints
  • Metals: ring binders, lever arch binders, hanging folders, large bulldog clips, license plates
  • Plastics: plastic bags and packing materials, computer discs, CDs, DVDs, backup tapes, video tapes, transparencies, ID badges, driver’s licenses, microfiche, microfilm, X-rays
  • HAZMAT: biochemical waste, sharps, toxic substances, flammables, explosives
  • Hardware: computer, printer or photocopier parts

While we make every effort to destroy the majority of the collected documents on-site with mobile shredding units or live shredding trucks, some of the paper documents will be loaded into secure trucks and transported to Iron Mountain’s nearby shredding plant for secure destruction and recycling. Therefore, guests may not be able to watch their documents be shredded while they wait. The goal of the event is to process our guests efficiently, and for safety reasons, we encourage all guests to remain in their vehicles.

Anything that contains sensitive information (name, address, Social Security number, account number, etc.) that you no longer need and that you want to keep out of the hands of thieves or “dumpster divers.” These documents could include old utility invoices, bank statements, medical records, credit card offers and old tax documents, just to name a few.

We cannot accept cardboard boxes in bulk. If you bring your paper documents in a cardboard box, it will be at each Iron Mountain representative’s discretion to return your box(es) to you after emptying the contents into the secure shredding bins.

After Iron Mountain securely destroys your paper documents, the processed materials are then transported to paper mills to be turned into pulp for recycled paper. This destruction process greatly reduces pollution, preserves landfill space and saves trees, water and even oil resources.

At the Comerica Bank Mangum Banking Center located at 2201 Mangum Road, Houston, TX 77092, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. While there is no specific bag or box limit like in years past, we ask guests to limit the amount of paper to one vehicle load in order to securely process everyone’s documents in an efficient manner. Large loads may be rerouted to the nearest Iron Mountain facility to keep traffic flowing and minimize guest wait times. Please note the event works like a big drive-through, and guests are asked to remain in their vehicles for safety reasons.

Yes, volunteers from the Food Bank will be present to collect any donations from our guests.

Comerica employees are not able to accept documents for shredding from customers or other members of the public. Please attend Shred Day to have your sensitive paper documents destroyed for free on Saturday, April 18.

A donation is not required for admission. However, we sure hope you’ll consider bringing two nonperishable food items to help support the Houston Food Bank and our local community.
